Ablation Casting of Thin-Wall Ductile Iron

E. Heidari et al.

Summary: An unalloyed thin-wall ductile cast iron was cast with different chemical compositions and commercial inoculants to investigate their effects on microstructure and mechanical properties. While ablation casting uses water for heat transfer, it did not impact the microstructure of the 1 mm thick casting.

Dynamic observation of dislocation evolution and interaction with twin boundaries in silicon crystal growth using in - situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction imaging

M. G. Tsoutsouva et al.

Summary: In this study, the grown-in dislocation dynamics and interaction mechanisms with growth twins during the directional solidification of silicon crystals were investigated using X-ray Bragg diffraction imaging techniques. The research found that existing dislocations in the seed propagate in the up-grown crystal and are blocked by growth twins, but continue to move laterally behind the growth front.

Influence of the Ar pressure on the structure of the NiTi foams produced by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis

N. Resnina et al.

Summary: Increasing Ar pressure affects the structure and martensitic transformation of NiTi foams produced by SHS. This is due to changes in combustion wave propagation and the decrease in transformation temperatures due to an increase in Ni concentration in the NiTi phase.

Summary: The discussion includes various topics on inorganic mechanochemical synthesis, covering synthesis methods, monitoring techniques, yield control, kinetics, as well as comparisons between thermal and mechanochemical syntheses with a focus on mixing and milling processes. The effects of mechanical treatment on individual particles and mixtures, and the role of macrokinetics in mixing processes, are also examined. Additionally, the basic assumptions for a mathematical model describing the macrokinetics of mechanochemical synthesis in solid + reactive gas and solid + solid systems are outlined.

Jong Min Byun et al.

Summary: The study attempted to fabricate dense tungsten using a combination process of spark plasma sintering and hot isostatic pressing, achieving an improvement in relative density and higher strength. X-ray diffractometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed that the specimens were mainly composed of tungsten with trace amounts of metallic tungsten bound with oxygen. The strength testing showed promising results with biaxial bending test.

Room and High-Temperature Sliding Wear Behavior of In Situ TiC-Based Cermet Fabricated through Selective Laser Melting

Atefeh Aramian et al.

Summary: In this study, in situ TiC-NiCr cermet was fabricated using selective laser melting with different energy densities. Microstructural evaluation showed that lower energy densities led to non-uniform distribution of TiC and increased defects, while higher energy densities affected densification. The highest hardness was achieved at 378.2 J.mm(-3) energy density, but it decreased at higher values. Wear resistance improved slightly with increased energy density at room temperature, and the lowest wear rate was observed at 600 degrees C during elevated temperature testing.

Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis of Ceramic Material Based on Aluminum-Magnesium Spinel and Titanium Diboride

A. P. Chizhikov et al.

Summary: The aim of this project is to synthesize ceramic composite materials based on aluminum-magnesium spinel strengthened by titanium diboride particles using the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) method, and study their combustion characteristics, microstructure, and phase composition. It is found that changing the ratio of magnesium and aluminum in the composition results in changes in the phase composition of the synthesized products, and with an increase in combustion temperature, the morphology of the powder particles obtained with composite structures changes.
