Experimental study of the heat transfer characteristics of single geothermal fracture at different reservoir temperature and in situ stress conditions

Biao Shu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of temperature and confining pressure on the heat transfer coefficient and energy extraction efficiency in deep geothermal energy. The experiments show that increasing rock temperature enhances the heat transfer coefficient and energy extraction rate, while increasing confining pressure decreases them. Additionally, the energy consumption of the pump used for fluid flow is not significantly affected by temperature and confining pressure.

Comparison between typical numerical models for fluid flow and heat transfer through single rock fractures

Guihong Liu et al.

Summary: Numerical models are useful in characterizing fluid flow and heat transfer processes in rock fractures, showing differences between artificial and hypothetical fractures; two-dimensional models can predict similar streamlines and thermal fronts as hypothetical fractures. Increasing computational elements can make quasi-three-dimensional models resemble three-dimensional models in capturing channeling flow and thermal fronts.

Constraining the heat transfer coefficient of rock fractures

Thomas Heinze

Summary: This study derived the definition of the upper and lower bound of the heat transfer coefficient in a single rock fracture in deep underground geothermal systems, validated with experiments from other studies. The results provide a quantification of the heat transfer coefficient value range from laboratory experiments and enable determination of the lower limit of outflow temperature in any scenario.
