On the convergence of controls and cost functionals in some optimal control heterogeneous problems when the homogenization process gives rise to some strange terms

J. I. Diaz et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the convergence of solutions and cost functional in optimal control problems related to the adsorption chemical phenomenon. The critical relationship between reaction coefficients, particle sizes, and spatial dimensions is analyzed, leading to the need for a suitably defined limit cost functional for the problem. The study also demonstrates the improvement of energy convergence results in the critical scale case without control.

On the Homogenization of an Optimal Control Problem in a Domain Perforated by Holes of Critical Size and Arbitrary Shape

J. Diaz et al.

Summary: This paper studies the asymptotic behavior of the optimal control for a Poisson type boundary value problem in a domain with holes of an arbitrary shape and Robin-type boundary conditions. The cost functional is dependent on the state's gradient and the usual L-2-norm of the control. The paper explores the critical relation between the problem parameters and the period of the structure epsilon -> 0, and identifies two strange terms that arise in the limit. It also extends previous literature on the homogenization of control problems, which assumed the symmetry of the periodic holes, for the first time.
