CENTAUR-The small- and wide-angle neutron scattering diffractometer/spectrometer for the Second Target Station of the Spallation Neutron Source

Shuo Qian et al.

Summary: CENTAUR is a neutron scattering instrument selected for the Second Target Station (STS) of the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It combines small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and wide-angle neutron scattering (WANS) capabilities with diffraction and spectroscopic capabilities. It leverages the high brightness of the STS source, state-of-the-art neutron optics, and a suite of detectors to enable measurements over a wide range of length scales with excellent resolution. It provides simultaneous WANS and diffraction capability, making it unique among neutron scattering instruments in the United States.

PIONEER, a high-resolution single-crystal polarized neutron diffractometer

Yaohua Liu et al.

Summary: PIONEER is a high Q-resolution, single-crystal, polarized neutron diffractometer that provides unprecedented capabilities in measuring tiny crystals, ultra-thin films, and weak structural and magnetic transitions. It benefits from increased peak brightness of cold-neutron sources and uses advanced Montel mirrors to deliver a focused beam with high brilliance transfer, homogeneous profile, and low background. Monte Carlo simulations demonstrate high theoretical peak brilliance and wavelength resolution. PIONEER accommodates various sample environments and utilizes a large cylindrical detector array to suppress background scattering.
