Caspofungin Inhibits Mixed Biofilms of Candida albicans and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Displays Effectiveness in Coinfected Galleria mellonella Larvae

Gaby Scheunemann et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of echinocandins against mixed biofilms of Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus, showing that caspofungin can be a therapeutic option for the treatment of mixed infections caused by these pathogens. Treatment with caspofungin led to a significant reduction in total biomass of mixed biofilms and microbial viability, ultimately improving survival rates in an in vivo coinfection model.
