Heat extraction and recover of deep borehole heat exchanger: Negotiating with intermittent operation mode under complex geological conditions

Yongqiang Luo et al.

Summary: This study reveals the impacts of heating duration and heating load distribution on the long-term operation performance of a geothermal heat pump system based on deep borehole heat exchanger (DBHE) through numerical analysis and model establishment. It also explains how complex geological conditions affect the dynamic heat extraction and heat recovery of the DBHE system. Additionally, the study checks the robustness of the model and presents an initial investigation on DBHE array with heat recovery.

Longevity and power density of intermediate-to-deep geothermal wells in district heating applications

Eero Hirvijoki et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the potential of using intermediate-to-deep geothermal wells for district heating in non-hot spot regions to replace carbon-intensive heat sources. Through parameter scans and analytical estimates, the longevity and power density of different-size wells are assessed. The comparison with typical large-scale district heating systems is illustrated using Helsinki, Finland as an example.

Heat extraction model and characteristics of coaxial deep borehole heat exchanger

Ji Li et al.

Summary: Middle and deep geothermal resources are abundant and advantageous, but there is a lack of theoretical model for deep ground heat exchangers. This study establishes a heat extraction model for a coaxial deep borehole heat exchanger and verifies it through numerical simulation, providing important guidance for research in this field.
