The Werther Effect, the Papageno Effect or No Effect? A Literature Review

Summary: The study found a causal relationship between media reporting on suicides and actual suicide rates, especially non-fictional accounts of celebrity suicides having the greatest impact. The modelling effect of media reporting on suicide is influenced by nationality, age, and gender, but because negative reporting styles are modifiable, media can also have educational and preventive effects.
