A systematic literature review on the conversion of plastic wastes into valuable 2D graphene-based materials

Octavia Vieira et al.

Summary: Enhancing the economic value of recycling plastic waste is crucial for environmental protection. Despite the lack of a comprehensive review, studies show that plastic waste is mainly utilized for producing carbon nanotubes, activated carbons, and 2D graphene-based materials. Various synthesis methods have been employed, such as thermal decomposition and chemical vapour deposition.

Economic performance assessment of elemental sulfur recovery with carbonate melt desulfurization process

Juwon Lee et al.

Summary: This study develops a new process for removing sulfur dioxide from flue gas emitted at thermal coal-fired power plants and extracting elemental sulfur, utilizing carbonyl sulfide as a resource and improving energy independence through heat integration. The levelized cost of the integrated process is economically advantageous compared to conventional methods.

Economic design framework of microalga-based biodiesel supply chains under uncertainties in CO2 emission and diesel demand

Yuchan Ahn et al.

Summary: A two-stage stochastic model was developed to optimize the supply chain network for microalga-based biodiesel production, considering uncertain CO2 supply and biodiesel demand as parameters. The optimal configuration was significantly influenced by uncertain biodiesel demand compared to uncertain CO2 emission.

Techno-economic assessment of carbonate melt flue gas desulfurization process

Juwon Lee et al.

Summary: The study introduced a novel approach using carbonate melt for the removal of sulfur dioxide, achieving >99.9% removal rate and cost competitiveness by utilizing waste heat through a heat-exchanger network. The proposed flue gas desulfurization process using carbonate melt demonstrated efficient SO2 removal and cost-effective operation.

Life-cycle assessment of SO2 removal from flue gas using carbonate melt

Junghwan Kim et al.

Summary: This paper compares the environmentally-benign process of carbonate melt flue gas desulfurization (CMFGD) with the conventional process for removing SO2 from flue gas using life cycle assessment and heat integration methodology. The results show that CMFGD process has a lower environmental impact and introducing a heat exchanger network (HEN) can further reduce environmental and economic impacts. This suggests that CMFGD process can replace conventional methods and have significant environmental benefits.
