Visible-light-assisted peroxymonosulfate activation by metal-free bifunctional oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride for enhanced degradation of imidacloprid: Role of non-photochemical and photocatalytic activation pathway

Jie Tan et al.

Summary: Bifunctional oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride (OCN) was fabricated to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for degrading imidacloprid (IMD). The modulated electronic structure of OCN promoted the adsorption, electron transfer, and formation of the redox site of PMS, leading to improved removal efficiency. Additionally, the PMS oxidation and reduction pathways on OCN, as well as the multiple reactions of superoxide radicals, contributed to the generation of singlet oxygen as the main active species.

High-frequency monitoring of neonicotinoids dynamics in soil-water systems during hydrological processes*

Y. H. Niu et al.

Summary: Neonicotinoids pollution poses a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems, with surface runoff, subsurface runoff, and eroded sediment being the main pathways for horizontal migration. Vertical migration in soil, especially under grass cover, results in deeper penetration of neonicotinoids, highlighting the importance of considering migration paths in pollution prediction.

Small-Grain Cover Crops Have Limited Effect on Neonicotinoid Contamination from Seed Coatings

Kirsten A. Pearsons et al.

Summary: The study found that neonicotinoids from insecticidal seed coatings can contaminate soil in treated fields and adjacent areas, but showed little opportunity for winter-planted cover crops to absorb significant residues. Residues persisted in soil at concentrations below 5 ppb, attributed to historic and recent neonicotinoid use. High interplot movement of neonicotinoids was observed, with contamination higher in untreated plots less isolated from treated plots.
