Mechanism of spindle pole organization and instability in human oocytes

Chun So et al.

Summary: It was found that the deficiency of KIFC1 protein contributes to spindle instability in human oocytes, while introducing exogenous KIFC1 protein can correct this issue. Additionally, NUMA-mediated clustering of microtubule minus ends can promote spindle pole stability in bovine, porcine, and mouse oocytes.

Volumetric morphometry reveals spindle width as the best predictor of mammalian spindle scaling

Tobias Kletter et al.

Summary: The function of cellular structures at the mesoscale is determined by their geometry and proportionality to cell size. The mitotic spindle is a good example of how the length and shape of intracellular organelles are important. New imaging techniques and volumetric data analysis provide insights into scaling relations across different species.
