Optimization of selective laser melting process parameters for surface quality performance of the fabricated Ti6Al4V

Moses Oyesola et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of laser power and scanning speed on the surface hardness and roughness of Ti6Al4V metal specimens fabricated via selective laser melting. Results show that increasing laser power leads to higher surface hardness and lower roughness, while increasing scanning speed results in higher hardness and roughness. Optimal process parameters identified are a laser power of 300 W and a scan speed of 1400 mm/s, producing minimal surface roughness and a hardness value of 409.391 HV for aerospace applications.

Influence of hot isostatic pressing on microstructure, properties and deformability of selective laser melting TC4 alloy

Tai-qi Yan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of different hot isostatic pressing regimes on the properties of TC4 alloy fabricated by selective laser melting technology. Results showed that the phase constitution and microstructure of the alloy changed after hot isostatic pressing, leading to a decrease in strength and hardness but an increase in ductility. The optimal hot isostatic pressing regime was found to be 940 degrees C/3 h/150 MPa, achieving a tensile strength of approximately 890 MPa and an elongation of around 14.0%.

Directionally-Dependent Mechanical Properties of Ti6Al4V Manufactured by Electron Beam Melting (EBM) and Selective Laser Melting (SLM)

Tim Pasang et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to investigate the mechanical properties of Ti6Al4V produced by additive manufacturing compared to wrought alloys. Differences were found in microstructures, hardness, surface roughness, and tensile strength among the samples. The ductility of the wrought alloy was consistently higher than that of the additive manufactured Ti6Al4V.
