Detonation and its limit in small tubes with ozone sensitization

Xian Shi et al.

Summary: The addition of ozone as an ignition promoter affects the detonation limit behavior in small, round tubes by reducing cell size and extending the transition to spinning detonation. Two regimes of detonation limits are identified: a loss-governed regime and a geometry-limited regime. Velocity deficits in these regimes are well predicted by different models. Ozone addition extends the detonation limit by moving reactive mixtures away from their geometric detonation limit and promoting detonation propagation in miniaturized geometries.

Propagation of gaseous detonation across inert layers

Yuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on detonation propagation in a mixture with inert layers, finding that successful reinitiation of detonation only occurs at relatively small values of inert layer thickness and spacing. The inert layer does not affect detonation propagation speed once reinitiation happens, but greatly affects the cell structure and size of the detonation. A double cellular structure is observed for relatively large spacing between inert layers, with the formation being interpreted as due to the interaction between transverse shock waves.

Spontaneous initiation and development of hydrogen-oxygen detonation with ozone sensitization

Wenhu Han et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the spontaneous initiation and sustenance of a detonation wave from a hot spot within an H-2-O-2 mixture with and without O-3 addition. Increasing O-3 addition enhances the possibility of sustaining a detonation within the gradient, and O-3 raises the critical temperature to induce the minimum spontaneous wave speed above the crossover temperature.

Flame enhancement of ethylene/methane mixtures by ozone addition

Christopher B. Reuter et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of ozone addition on ignition and flame propagation through one-dimensional laminar flame simulations of multi-component fuel mixtures. It was found that reactions of ozone in mixtures of alkenes and alkanes have a significant effect on flame speed, with a highly nonlinear enhancement observed. The research provides insights into the competition between various ozone reactions in real combustors.

Effects of fuel decomposition and stratification on the forced ignition of a static flammable mixture

Xinyi Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of fuel decomposition on forced ignition in n-decane/air mixtures, finding that fuel decomposition can greatly promote ignition in fuel-lean mixtures while having little effect on stoichiometric cases. The duration of unsteady ignition kernel transition is also affected by fuel decomposition, and combining fuel decomposition with fuel stratification further promotes forced ignition. Additionally, laser and spark ignition experiments were conducted to measure the MIE of n-decane/ethylene/air mixtures, with experimental results consistent with simulation results.
