Local flame displacement speeds of hydrogen-air premixed flames in moderate to intense turbulence

Yuvraj et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of high Karlovitz number turbulence on density-weighted flame displacement speed in H-2-air flames, revealing that flame-flame interactions in regions of large negative curvature govern large deviations of flame displacement speed. In intense turbulent flames characterized by large Ka, flame displacement speed enhancement is predominantly governed by local interactions of the isotherms. Enhancement in flame displacement speed in regions of large negative curvature occurs as a result of these interactions, indicating that the interaction model is useful for high Ka turbulent premixed flames as well.

Numerical Study of Quenching Distances for Side-Wall Quenching Using Detailed Diffusion and Chemistry

Thorsten Zirwes et al.

Summary: Numerical investigation of quenching distances in laminar flows focuses on head-on quenching and side-wall quenching setups, showing good agreement between simulation and experiment for the former but less analysis for the latter. Different diffusion models and chemical reactions may influence the accuracy of quenching distances in side-wall quenching simulations.

In-situ flame particle tracking based on barycentric coordinates for studying local flame dynamics in pulsating Bunsen flames

Thorsten Zirwes et al.

Summary: This study introduces a tracking algorithm for Flame Particles (FP) using barycentric coordinates, which adds value in studying local flame dynamics. By seeding FPs along the flame surface and tracking their trajectories at arbitrary points on the flame front, a phase shift between the unsteady flame stretch rate and local flame speed is revealed.
