This study introduces a novel approach for in utero treatment of chorioangiomas using a needle-based ultrasound-guided procedure with vascular plugs. Previous experience with in utero treatment of placental chorioangiomas has been limited and different strategies have been proposed. Despite mixed results, interventions with coils are promising due to their simplicity and relative safety.
Key points What does this study add? This study reports a novel approach for in utero treatment of chorioangiomas using a needle-based ultrasound-guided procedure to deploy vascular plugs to abolish tumoral flow in the placenta. What is already known? There is limited experience with in utero treatment of placental chorioangiomas. Different strategies have been proposed with different risks and benefits. Interventions with coils have yielded mixed results but are nonetheless promising, given the simplicity and relative safety of the procedure.
