Perinatal outcomes and factors affecting the survival rate of fetuses with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome treated with fetoscopic laser coagulation: a single-center seven-year experience

Rina Kim et al.

Summary: This single-center study aimed to assess the perinatal outcomes and factors associated with fetuses with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) treated with fetoscopic laser coagulation (FLC). Various prenatal factors were identified as predictive factors for fetal survival in TTTS cases treated with FLC, and the use of the Solomon technique led to an improved survival rate of at least one twin.

Placental Abruption after Fetoscopic Laser Surgery in Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome: The Role of the Solomon Technique

Patricia J. C. Knijnenburg et al.

Summary: The study compared the rate of placental abruption in TTTS treated with selective laser technique and Solomon laser technique, finding a low rate of placental abruption which was associated with lower gestational age at birth and severe cerebral injury. The use of the Solomon technique did not significantly increase the rate of placental abruption. Continued research is needed to determine why the rate of placental abruption in TTTS is higher than in the overall population.

Perinatal risk factors of neurodevelopmental impairment after fetoscopic laser photocoagulation for twin-twin transfusion syndrome: systematic review and meta-analysis

K. Hessami et al.

Summary: The incidence of NDI in TTTS survivors is 14.0%, and is associated with later gestational age at the time of FLP, earlier gestational age at delivery, and lower birth weight. Preterm birth before 32 weeks is linked to a higher risk of NDI.

Risk Profiling of the Solomon Technique versus Selective Technique of Fetoscopic Laser Surgery for Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome

Seiji Kanazawa et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the outcomes and adverse events of fetoscopic laser surgery for twin-twin transfusion syndrome using the Solomon technique compared to the selective technique. It found that the Solomon technique led to superior survival outcomes, but increased risks of placental abruption, pPROM, and fetal growth impairment. Total laser energy was associated with the occurrence of pPROM, highlighting the importance of monitoring adverse events for perinatal management after FLS.
