Three-dimensional simulation and experimental investigation of electrolyte jet machining with the inclined nozzle

Weidong Liu et al.

Summary: This study developed a three-dimensional multiphysics model of the stationary EJM process accounting for two-phase flow field and electric field and conducted experiments for validation. The inclined nozzle resulted in uneven distribution of flow velocity and thickness of electrolyte film, causing non-circular hydraulic jump and non-axisymmetric anodic current density distribution.

Macro electrolyte jet machining of TC4 titanium alloy using negative-incidence jet form

Minglu Wang et al.

Summary: By enhancing product transport at the back end of the tool electrode with novel cathode tools featuring negative-incidence jet forms, this study improves the machining performance of macro electrolyte jet machining (macro-EJM) for TC4 titanium alloy. Numerical simulations show that tools with negative-incidence jet forms can increase the high-velocity flow zone at the back end and reduce the low-velocity flow zone in the machining area, improving surface quality. Experimental results demonstrate that a groove with a relatively smooth silver surface and maximum material removal rate (MRR) can be achieved using a jet angle of -15 degrees, with higher machining current, depth, and MRR compared to a vertical jet form.
