Essential oils and their nanoemulsions as green alternatives to antibiotics in poultry nutrition: a comprehensive review

Mohamed E. Abd El-Hack et al.

Summary: This review assesses the benefits of using essential oils (EOs) and their nanoemulsions (NEs) as antibiotic alternatives in organic poultry production. EOs, derived from plants, have antimicrobial activities and can be used for therapeutic purposes. NEs, as carrier systems, improve the bioavailability of volatile lipophilic components of EOs.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum: a devastating organism for the poultry industry in Egypt

Sherif Marouf et al.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) in different commercial poultry farms and environmental samples in various Egyptian governorates. It found that the highest incidence of MG was in turkey farms, followed by broiler and layer chicken farms, with the highest prevalence in chickens and turkeys during winter and autumn. Molecular identification revealed a close relationship between the isolates in this study and the vaccine strain 6/85 and ts11 strain.

Alternatives to antibiotics for organic poultry production: types, modes of action and impacts on bird's health and production

Mohamed E. Abd El-Hack et al.

Summary: The poultry industry plays a significant role in addressing the nutritional gap in many countries by providing protein-rich meat and eggs at a lower cost than other animal meat sources. Following the ban of antibiotic growth promoters, natural alternatives such as probiotics, prebiotics, organic acids, essential oils, and other feed additives have gained popularity in the poultry industry for their unique properties and positive impact on poultry production. They can easily be mixed with other feed ingredients, improve feed intake and conversion rate, enhance bird immunity and digestion, reduce antibiotic usage, and provide healthy organic products for human consumption.

Evaluation of the Effects of Silver Nanoparticles Against Experimentally Induced Necrotic Enteritis in Broiler Chickens

Heba M. Salem et al.

Summary: Treatment with silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) can reduce the colonization of Clostridium perfringens in the intestines and ceca, alleviate the severity of clinical symptoms, and decrease mortality rate. Ag NPs treatment also alleviates pathological damages in the intestines and livers, although residues are found in the muscles.
