Comparative Study of the Petal Structure and Fragrance Components of the Nymphaea hybrid, a Precious Water Lily

Qi Zhou et al.

Summary: Nymphaea hybrid is a precious aquatic flower with high ornamental, economic, medicinal, and ecological value. The volatile components emitted from its flower petals were investigated in this study. The density and protrusion of the petals, as well as the number of plastids and osmiophilic matrix granules, played key roles in emitting the fragrance. There were distinct differences in the components and relative contents of volatile compounds among different strains of N. hybrid. Alkenes, alcohols, and alkanes were the major types of volatile components in the flower petals. Different volatile compounds contributed to the unique flavors and aromas of the four strains of N. hybrid, as indicated by hierarchical cluster analysis and principal component analysis.

Gibberellin and spermidine synergistically regulate polyamine metabolism during the development of Rhododendron flowers

Qian Xu et al.

Summary: Polyamines (PAs) play important roles in plant flowering, and exogenous gibberellic acid (GA(3)) and spermidine (Spd) can delay Rhododendron senescence by enhancing PA biosynthesis and conversion, thus delaying flower wilting.

Dynamic changes of pectin epitopes and daylily tepals during flower opening and senescence of Hemerocallis citrina

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that demethylesterification of HG-type pectins in Hemerocallis citrina 'Datonghuanghua' was evident after the outer tepals opened, facilitating their degradation by pectic enzymes. The activities of pectin methylesterase increased significantly after blooming, highlighting the importance of pectin remodeling in the senescence process.

The chromosome-level Hemerocallis citrina Borani genome provides new insights into the rutin biosynthesis and the lack of colchicine

Zhixing Qing et al.

Summary: The genome assembly of H. citrina includes 3183 contigs with a contig N50 of 2.09 Mb, clustered into 11 pseudochromosomes, with 86.20% annotated as repetitive content and 54,295 protein-coding genes. Research indicates that H. citrina experienced a recent whole-genome duplication event and does not contain any genes involved in colchicine biosynthesis.
