A novel nitrogen-rich phosphinic amide towards flame-retardant, smoke suppression and mechanically strengthened epoxy resins

Xin-Duo Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a nitrogen-rich phosphinic amide named D-5-AT was synthesized and incorporated into epoxy resin (EP) to achieve multifunctionality without compromising mechanical properties. The addition of D-5-AT significantly improved the flame retardancy and smoke suppression of EP, while also strengthening its mechanical properties. This work offers a promising method to meet the increasing demand for multifunctional epoxy resins.

An effective strategy to enhance the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of epoxy resin by using hyperbranched flame retardant

Mingfeng Chen et al.

Summary: PTDOB, a hyperbranched flame retardant containing P/N/Si/B and rigid-flexible structure, was synthesized to prepare high-performance epoxy resin with improved fire-safety and mechanical properties. The optimal flame-retardant epoxy thermosets exhibited self-extinguishing behavior, decreased heat release rate and smoke production, while also showing superior mechanical properties with increased impact and flexural strength. The study demonstrated that the incorporation of PTDOB has a positive effect on both flame retardancy and mechanical properties simultaneously, making it a promising additive for high-performance epoxy resin.
