Hybrid nanocellulose/carbon nanotube/natural rubber nanocomposites with a continuous three-dimensional conductive network

Hossein Kazemi et al.

Summary: In this study, the hybrid effect of nanocellulose/carbon nanotube (NCC/CNT) reinforcement on natural rubber (NR) nanocomposites was investigated. It was found that the presence of NCC improved the dispersion of the hybrid filler, while the presence of CNT increased the interaction between the filler and the matrix. The use of a NCC/CNT hybrid system resulted in superior mechanical properties, dynamic mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity compared to using each material separately.

In-situ grown bilayer MOF from robust wood aerogel with aligned microchannel arrays toward selective extraction of uranium from seawater

Tao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, MOF bonded wood aerogel was developed for uranium extraction from seawater. The wood aerogel with microchannel structure allowed for free diffusion of uranyl ions. The bilayer MOF structure resulted in excellent compressibility and fragility resistance. Under light irradiation, the adsorbent exhibited high adsorption capacity and selectivity in natural seawater.

Summary: In this study, a novel Zr-based MOF (DONA-MOF) was synthesized and its adsorption performance was systematically evaluated. Results showed that DONA-MOF had excellent removal effect on Au(III) through monolayer chemisorption. Additionally, DONA-MOF exhibited remarkable adsorption capacity and selectivity, and maintained good removal effect after multiple cycles.

Enhancement of mechanical properties of styrene-butadiene rubber composites by carbon black/silicone carbide hybrid filler networking

Nafise Torbati-Fard et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of silicon carbide (SiC) nanoparticles as a secondary filler on filler networking in carbon black (CB)/SiC hybrid filled styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). The results showed that there was a critical loading of SiC in the low-loading range, which improved the dispersion state in the hybrid composite. The surface energy mismatch between CB and SiC decreased the kinetics and extent of filler networking in the SBR matrix.

Nitrogen-rich dual linker MOF catalyst for room temperature fixation of CO2 via cyclic carbonate synthesis: DFT assisted mechanistic study

Renjith S. S. Pillai et al.

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of a novel Zn-based Lewis acid-base bifunctional metal-organic framework (ITH-1) and its catalytic ability for room temperature carbon dioxide fixation are reported. ITH-1 possesses a monoclinic crystal structure with a 2D non-planar inter-digitated network, and exhibits thermally stability up to 300 degrees C. It shows excellent catalytic activity for the cycloaddition of CO2 with propylene oxide under solvent and co-catalyst free conditions, even at room temperature, with high conversion and remarkable reusability.

Effects of mixing process on spatial distribution and coexistence of sulfur and zinc in vulcanized EPDM rubber

Yohei Nakanishi et al.

Summary: The coexistence of sulfur and ZnO plays a crucial role in the vulcanization of rubber, with the mixing process significantly influencing their spatial distribution. The spatial cross-correlation and homogeneity of sulfur and zinc are key factors that enhance the performance of EPDM rubber.

Conductive, sensing stable and mechanical robust silicone rubber composites for large-strain sensors

Jihua Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that conductive silicone rubber composites with hybrid CNT masterbatch and carbon black fillers (CNT/CB composites) have better mechanical strength, elasticity, and conductivity compared to composites containing only single-wall CNTs. This improved dispersion of CNTs in CNT/CB composites leads to stable sensing properties, making them suitable for mechanically strain sensor applications. Additionally, CNT/CB composites demonstrate outdoor robustness and a wide operation temperature range, showing potential for use in sensor products.
