UV laser high-quality drilling of CFRP plate with a new interlaced scanning mode

Wenyuan Li et al.

Summary: An interlaced scanning mode (ISM) is proposed to improve the surface quality of carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) plate by reducing heat accumulation effect and surface defects compared to the default sequential scanning mode (SSM). Several experiments show that ISM can significantly reduce the overall average HAZ width and taper of the hole, leading to less damage in the HAZ and vicinity.

Temperature-dependent material removal during pulsed laser processing of CFRP composites

Nengru Tao et al.

Summary: Understanding the material removal mechanism and thermal characteristics in pulsed laser machining of CFRP composites is crucial for optimizing process parameters and strategies. However, current studies mainly focus on the effects of process parameters on heat affected zone size and processing efficiency, without fully revealing the formation mechanism of machining defects related to temperature characteristics.

Feasibility study of wave-motion milling of carbon fiber reinforced plastic holes

Deyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a wave-motion milling (WMM) method to improve the quality of CFRP hole-manufacturing. The experimental results showed significant improvements in hole surface quality, reduced thrust force, decreased hole exit damages, and alleviated tool wear in WMM compared to conventional helical milling (CHM).
