Electrical and thermal characterizations of synthesized composite films based on polyethylene oxide (PEO) doped by aluminium chloride (AlCl3)

A. B. Migdadi et al.

Summary: Polymer electrolytes based on PEO-AlCl3 are synthesized and investigated for their crystal structure, chemical bonding, thermal, and electrical properties. Suitable amounts of AlCl3 reduce the crystallinity degree and crystallite size of the resulting nanocomposite thin films, and complexation between Al-3 ions and the ether oxygen of PEO host polymer is confirmed. The melting temperature and melting enthalpy are significantly reduced by adding the ionic salt. The electrical conductivity of the PEO-AlCl3 films increases with temperature, with the highest conductivity achieved for PEO doped by 5 wt% of AlCl3.

Doping mechanism and optical properties of as-prepared polyvinyl chloride (PVC) doped by iodine thin films

Mahmoud Telfah et al.

Summary: This work investigates the complex composite thin films based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) doped with different iodine (I-2) concentrations. The study examines the doping mechanism and chemical properties of the PVC-I-2 composites using FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopies, and TGA. By analyzing the experimental transmittance and reflectance spectra and combining classical and quantum models, the optical and optoelectronic properties of the composite thin films are derived. It is found that introducing I-2 into the PVC films reduces the bandgap energy and allows for bandgap engineering. The refractive index of the PVC thin film increases as the concentration of I-2 in the polymeric matrix increases.
