Air-Stable Thermoluminescent Carbodicarbene-Borafluorenium Ions

Kimberly K. Hollister et al.

Summary: This article reports the synthesis, molecular structures, and optical properties of a new class of air-stable borenium ions stabilized by the strongly donating carbodicarbene ligand. These ions exhibit thermoluminescence in solution and increased quantum yields in the solid state, with the ability to emit white light at lower temperatures. The effect of anion size and ligand rotation on the optical properties is also investigated, complemented by theoretical analysis of the excited-state dynamics.

o-Carborane-based fluorophores as efficient luminescent systems both as solids and as water-dispersible nanoparticles

Sohini Sinha et al.

Summary: This study presents a series of pi-conjugated fluorophores appended with o-carborane and investigates their light-emitting properties in the solid state. The AIEE effect observed in one fluorenyl derivative enables the successful preparation of o-carborane-containing organic nanoparticles (NPs) with homogeneous dispersion in aqueous media, while maintaining their luminescence properties. Notably, the thin films of the NPs also exhibit high fluorescence efficiency, indicating potential for optical and optoelectronic applications.

Phenylpyridyl-Fused Boroles: A Unique Coordination Mode and Weak B-N Coordination-Induced Dual Fluorescence

Jiang He et al.

Summary: In this study, electron-poor phenylpyridyl-fused boroles were prepared using 4-phenylpyridine or 2-phenylpyridine instead of biphenyl. The boroles exhibited unique coordination modes and different properties in solid state and solution. The enhanced electron-accepting ability of the borole species with pyridyl group was demonstrated through theoretical and experimental investigations.

Triarylborane Dyes as a Novel Non-Covalent and Non-Inhibitive Fluorimetric Markers for DPP III Enzyme

Zeljka Ban et al.

Summary: Novel dyes were prepared by simple click CuAAC attachment, which interact specifically with proteins while their affinity to DNA/RNA is completely abolished. These dyes exhibit strong fluorescence enhancement upon binding to proteins, and the triarylborane-pyrene conjugate retains FRET effect when binding to the hDPP III enzyme.

Halogen bond-induced electrophilic aromatic halogenations

Wanutcha Lorpaiboon et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been increased interest in utilizing halogen bonds in organic synthesis, particularly in aromatic halogenation reactions. N-Halosuccinimides and 1,3-dihalo-5,5-dimethylhydantoins are commonly used sources of halonium ions due to their easy handling and low toxicity. Recent research has shown that activation of N-haloimides by nucleophilic Lewis base catalysts can lead to a shift in the paradigm of aromatic halogenation.

A flexible carborane-cored luminogen: variable emission behaviours in aggregates

Jiaxin Li et al.

Summary: A new flexible luminogen, NAPH, was designed and synthesized, exhibiting variable photophysical behaviors in aggregates. The multiple conformations of the carborane-cored luminogen in aggregates led to diverse emission behaviors, providing new access to multifunctional single-component solid-state luminescent materials.
