Specific Posture-Stabilising Effects of Vision and Touch Are Revealed by Distinct Changes of Body Oscillation Frequencies

Summary: The study investigated the effects of vision and light-touch on postural stability during stance with eyes closed on a compliant surface in healthy young individuals. The results showed that vision and vision combined with light-touch significantly reduced spectral median frequency, while all stabilizing sensory conditions reduced spectral amplitude. Vision primarily affected high-frequency range, while light-touch had a greater impact on low-frequency range. Touch and vision together produced a decrease in spectral amplitude, particularly in the anteroposterior direction. The findings suggest that frequency analysis can reveal unique tuning of postural control mode by haptic and visual information.

Standing weight-bearing asymmetry in adults with lateropulsion following stroke

Summary: Individuals with lateropulsion following stroke demonstrate significant weight-bearing asymmetry patterns in standing, with a preference towards the non-paretic leg when standing unsupported and varied directions of asymmetry when standing with arm support. There were no significant correlations between directional weight-bearing asymmetry and the Burke Lateropulsion Scale, but a moderate correlation was found between absolute weight-bearing asymmetry and the Postural Assessment Scale for Stroke in standing with arm support. Weight-bearing asymmetry variables for standing with arm support were found to be highly reliable between test occasions.
