Levantine overkill: 1.5 million years of hunting down the body size distribution

Jacob Dembitzer et al.

Summary: Research found that in the Southern Levant region, the average body weight of animals declined logarithmically over time; 10,500 years ago, the average weight of animals hunted was only 1.7% of that 1.5 million years ago. Different human lineages hunted significantly smaller prey in different periods, indicating that humans gradually eradicated large species throughout the Pleistocene.
