Shoreline change assessment of Indus delta using GIS-DSAS and satellite data

Summary: The Indus River Delta in Pakistan is experiencing coastal erosion due to natural and human activities, causing detrimental effects on agricultural lands and livelihoods of coastal communities. This study used satellite data and the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) integrated with ArcGIS software to quantify shoreline variations. The results showed that erosion exceeded accretion, with a net erosion rate of 18.87 +/- 2.22 m/year. The left bank side of the river Indus had a higher erosion rate compared to the right bank side. The study highlights the need for mitigation measures to protect the Indus delta shoreline.

The use of bioshields for coastal protection in Vietnam: Current status and potential
