Peanut triacylglycerols activate innate immunity both in insects and mammals

Wenyuan Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the immunoreactivity of peanut oil using the silkworm model. The results showed that peanut oil induced melanin formation and the triacylglycerols (TAGs) in peanut oil were responsible for this effect. Furthermore, the peanut TAGs caused muscle contraction and TNF-alpha production in the silkworm and mouse macrophage cells, respectively. The muscle contraction activity of peanut TAGs was attributed to the TAG moiety. Additionally, the peanut TAGs exhibited outstanding effects on melanin formation compared to other oils. These findings suggest that TAGs have immunoreactivity and induce cytokine production in insect and mammalian immune systems. Moreover, the different effects of peanut and olive TAGs on melanin formation may be attributed to their distinct fatty acid compositions.

Applying the silkworm model for the search of immunosuppressants

Atsushi Miyashita et al.

Summary: Various stresses can increase the susceptibility of silkworms to bacterial infection, with betamethasone experiments confirming the immuno-suppressive effects. Soil bacteria extracts showed potential as immunosuppressive agents targeting innate immunity, suggesting potential candidate compounds for further study.

From Dysbiosis to Healthy Skin: Major Contributions of Cutibacterium acnes to Skin Homeostasis

Miquel Rozas et al.

Summary: Cutibacterium acnes is the most abundant bacterium living in healthy human skin, playing a significant role in skin homeostasis and related skin disorders. Its contribution to normal skin functions through lipid modulation, niche competition, and oxidative stress mitigation highlights its importance in skin health. Limited studies have explored the potential of skin probiotics using skin commensal strains, compared to gut probiotics.

Pharmacokinetics of voriconazole and its alteration by Candida albicans infection in silkworms

Takeo Yasu et al.

Summary: Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal agent used in the treatment of invasive fungal infections, with its blood levels influenced by individual variability and inflammatory responses. Through pharmacokinetic studies in silkworms, it was demonstrated that silkworms can serve as an effective model animal for studying the pharmacokinetics of Voriconazole in infection and inflammation settings.
