Magnetohydrodynamic effect of internal transport barrier on EAST tokamak

Summary: An internal transport barrier (ITB) can be formed on EAST by controlling safety factor (q) profiles, Shafranov shift, and magnetohydrodynamic behaviors. Recent studies show that fishbone plays a crucial role in the formation and sustainment of electron density ITB. The characteristics of fishbone determine the electron density profile.

Experimental Evidence of Intrinsic Current Generation by Turbulence in Stationary Tokamak Plasmas

Erzhong Li et al.

Summary: Experimental achievement of high-beta steady-state long pulse plasmas with steep central electron temperature gradient is reported. Turbulent current, driven by electron temperature gradient mode (ETG), is observed and can reach a significant ratio of the bootstrap current. The maximum values of turbulent current and electron temperature gradient lead to the destabilization of an m/n=1/1 kink mode.

Linear and nonlinear benchmarks between the CLT code and the M3D-C1 code for the 2/1 resistive tearing mode and the 1/1 resistive kink mode

W. Zhang et al.

Summary: By comparing the simulation results of CLT code and M3D-C1 code, it was found that they were almost identical in terms of resistive kink mode and tearing mode, including linear and nonlinear growth rates. This indicates that the simulation results for the 1/1 resistive-kink mode and 2/1 tearing mode are accurate and reliable.

Experimental observation of low-frequency magnetohydrodynamic instabilities driven by energetic electrons in low hybrid current drive plasmas

L. M. Yu et al.

Summary: Energetic electrons drive low-frequency magnetohydrodynamic instabilities in both co- and counter-current drive low hybrid current drive plasma in HL-2A, resulting in the observation of electron fishbone (eFB) modes and electron beta-induced Alfven eigenmodes (eBAEs). The different mode structures and positions are obtained through tomography of soft x-ray arrays, with frequency jump phenomena of eFB modes also being observed. Two eBAEs with varying mode numbers are found, showing a relationship with changes in the edge safety factor (q) as LHCD power increases.

Influence of Hall effect and toroidal flow on the plasmoid formation and incomplete reconnection in a low resistivity plasma in tokamak

W. Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the nonlinear resistive-kink mode in low resistivity plasma in tokamak was investigated using a 3D, toroidal, nonlinear Hall-MHD code. It was discovered that the effect of two-fluid dynamics and toroidal flow can significantly alter the behavior of the resistive-kink mode, leading to a different evolution of magnetic islands and reconnection processes. Additionally, the investigation into the toroidal effect showed that the widths of the main m/n = 1/1 island and the secondary island slightly increase with increasing aspect ratios.
