An alternative, zeaxanthin epoxidase-independent abscisic acid biosynthetic pathway in plants

Kun-Peng Jia et al.

Summary: This study discovered a ABA biosynthetic pathway that is independent of ABA1 and identified the intermediates of this pathway as apocarotenoids. These apocarotenoids are successively converted into ABA in both Arabidopsis and rice, exerting ABA biological functions such as maintaining seed dormancy and inducing the expression of ABA-responsive genes. Furthermore, these apocarotenoids also exhibit ABA-independent regulatory activities.

Delaying Broccoli Floret Yellowing by Phytosulfokine α Application During Cold Storage

Morteza Soleimani Aghdam et al.

Summary: This study found that treatment with 150nM PSKα increased endogenous accumulation of hydrogen sulfide in broccoli, delaying floret yellowing. Additionally, PSKα suppressed ethylene biosynthesis and reduced chlorophyll degradation, leading to higher chlorophyll accumulation in broccoli florets.
