Curcumin alleviates acute kidney injury in a dry-heat environment by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in a rat model

Yin-Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: Curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities that can protect the kidneys from injury in a dry-heat environment. Pretreatment with curcumin can decrease kidney injury indicators and NGAL levels, increase renal SOD and CAT activities, and decrease MDA levels.

Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibition attenuates oxidative stress in systemic immune cells and renal compartment during sepsis-induced acute kidney injury in mice

Ahmed Nadeem et al.

Summary: Sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is a significant global health burden, involving complex pathogenesis with various immune cells. This study investigated the role of Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) in different immune cells during AKI and found that its activation contributed to AKI associated biochemical markers. Inhibition of BTK with Ibrutinib attenuated AKI associated dysfunction and oxidative stress in immune cells and the kidney, highlighting the potential of BTK signaling as a therapeutic target for sepsis-induced AKI.

Role of ITK signaling in acute kidney injury in mice: Amelioration of acute kidney injury associated clinical parameters and attenuation of inflammatory transcription factor signaling in CD4+T cells by ITK inhibition

Ahmed Nadeem et al.

Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a global health issue with increasing incidence, mainly due to renal tubular injury causing rapid deterioration of renal function. Immune system dysfunction induced by sepsis plays a key role in AKI, releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines and leading to renal inflammation. Inhibition of ITK signaling may be an effective strategy to prevent renal dysfunction associated with AKI.

Curcumin prevents renal cell apoptosis in acute kidney injury in a rat model of dry-heat environment heatstroke via inhibition of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway

Yin-Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: Heatstroke is characterized by high body temperature and central nervous system dysfunction, with acute kidney injury being a common complication. The study demonstrated that curcumin, extracted from turmeric, could potentially prevent heatstroke-induced AKI by inhibiting the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway in renal cells.

Mitochondrial ROS promote mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation in ischemic acute kidney injury by disrupting TFAM-mediated mtDNA maintenance

Meng Zhao et al.

Summary: Reducing mtROS levels attenuated renal dysfunction, mitochondrial damage, and inflammation in IRI-AKI mice. The loss of TFAM can impact mtDNA maintenance, mitochondrial energy metabolism, and cytokine release. Insights into the role of mtROS and TFAM in IRI-AKI provide potential therapeutic targets for renal repair.
