4,5-Seco-5,10-friedo-abietane-type diterpenoids with anticancer activity fromSalvia atropatanaBunge

Abolfazl Shakeri et al.

Summary: This study isolated the petroleum ether fraction from the roots of Salvia atropatana for the first time, showing growth inhibition and apoptosis induction in MCF-7 and PC3 cells. The most cytotoxic compound, a new abietane-type diterpenoid named atropatanene, exhibited significant cytotoxicity against PC3 cells. Bioassay-guided isolation methods were used to identify compounds with high cytotoxicity.

Anticancer Activity of Abietane Diterpenoids from Salvia libanoticum Grown in Lebanon

Mohamad Ali Hijazi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of abietane diterpenes from the roots of Salvia libanoticum as anticancer agents, with 7a-acetylhorminone identified as the most effective compound. The results indicated the importance of oxygenated C7 for cytotoxic activity, with the carbonyl group at position C7 leading to higher activity than the hydroxyl group.
