Wall shear stress and wall heat flux in a supersonic turbulent boundary layer

Fulin Tong et al.

Summary: The study reports the characteristics of wall shear stress and wall heat flux in a supersonic turbulent boundary layer using direct numerical simulation, with an analysis of statistical data and a detailed conditional analysis on extreme fluctuation events. The results show a different mechanism for the generation of extreme positive and negative events in wall heat flux compared to wall shear stress.

Wall heat flux in a supersonic shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction

Fulin Tong et al.

Summary: The characteristics of wall heat flux beneath a supersonic turbulent boundary layer interacting with an impinging shock wave at a certain angle are analyzed using direct numerical simulation. It is found that the QP85 scaling changes across the interaction and the probability density function of the wall heat flux fluctuations is similar to that of wall shear stress. The low-frequency shock unsteadiness has little influence on the wall heat flux spectrum, and the fluctuating wall heat flux experiences a sharp decrease in the separation region and recovers in the downstream region.

Direct numerical simulation of impinging shock wave and turbulent boundary layer interaction over a wavy-wall

Fulin Tong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the interaction of a 30-degree oblique shock wave with a supersonic turbulent boundary layer at Ma (infinity) = 2.9 and Re-0 = 2400 over a wavy-wall, revealing significant influences of the wavy-wall on flow field characteristics, skin-friction, pressure, and turbulence kinetic energy budget, leading to an increase in separation region and the formation of bubbles.

Summary: Understanding the generation mechanism of heat flux is crucial for the design of hypersonic vehicles. A novel formula has been proposed to decompose the heat flux coefficient and explore the dominant contributors, aiding in the prediction of heat and design of thermal protection devices.
