Droplet Impact on Asymmetric Hydrophobic Microstructures

Susumu Yada et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of droplets on surfaces with inclined micropillars and discovers directional rebound at high impact speeds. The experimental observations are further supported by numerical simulations, revealing the detailed movement of the droplets over the pillars. These findings are significant for the design of structured surfaces to control droplet mobility.

Effect of the Microstructures on Vulcanized Rubber Frictions

Masanaru Nosaka et al.

Summary: This study successfully investigated the effects of vulcanized rubber microstructures on friction force by using simple anisotropic microstructures. It was found that the friction coefficient of vulcanized rubbers can be reduced by surface microstructures, and it is affected by the microstructure anisotropy.

Lattice Boltzmann investigation of the influence of slip distributions on the flow past a diamond cylinder at low-Reynolds-number

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, the two-dimensional flow past a diamond cylinder with varying slip distributions at a Reynolds number of 100 was numerically investigated using the lattice Boltzmann method. It was found that different slip distributions have different effects on friction drag and pressure reduction, with symmetric slip lengths being helpful for pressure reduction and asymmetric distributions potentially causing torque on the cylinder for flow control. The research also showed that a combination of slip distributions, such as fore-up and after-up, could provide benefits for pressure reduction.
