Searching for dark matter signals in timing spectra at neutrino experiments

Bhaskar Dutta et al.

Summary: The paper investigates a dark matter search strategy using timing and energy spectra to discriminate dark matter signals from neutrino signals at low-energy, pulsed-beam neutrino experiments. The strategy is applied to COHERENT, JSNS(2), and CCM experiments, which are sources of both neutrinos and photons. The results demonstrate that by employing a combination of energy and timing cuts, the search strategy can observe a mild excess of dark matter signals beyond known backgrounds in certain experiments.

Simplest and Most Predictive Model of Muon g-2 and Thermal Dark Matter

Ian Holst et al.

Summary: This study suggests that the long-standing anomaly in muon g-2 may be explained by a new particle species that couples to dark matter and affects its annihilations in the early Universe. A comprehensive analysis of the model reveals a viable range of dark matter masses and predicts contributions that could potentially resolve the tension between early and late time measurements of the Hubble constant.

Search for Neutrino-Induced Neutral-Current Δ Radiative Decay in MicroBooNE and a First Test of the MiniBooNE Low Energy Excess under a Single-Photon Hypothesis

P. Abratenko et al.

Summary: We present the results of a study on neutrino-induced neutral current resonant Delta(1232) baryon production and subsequent Delta radiative decay with a 0.8 GeV neutrino beam. By analyzing data from the first three years of MicroBooNE's operation, we select single-photon events and examine the final state for the presence of protons and charged leptons. The background is constrained using a dedicated measurement of NC pi(0) events. Our results provide bounds on anomalous enhancements of NC Delta radiative decay and disfavor a candidate photon interpretation of the MiniBooNE low-energy excess.

Search for an Excess of Electron Neutrino Interactions in MicroBooNE Using Multiple Final-State Topologies

P. Abratenko et al.

Summary: In this study, we measure the v e interactions from the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam using the MicroBooNE liquid argon time projection chamber and investigate the nature of the excess of low energy interactions observed by the MiniBooNE Collaboration. Three independent v e searches are conducted across multiple single electron final states. The results, obtained with different signal topologies, statistics, backgrounds, reconstruction algorithms, and analysis approaches, are found to be consistent with or slightly lower than the expected v e rate from the Booster Neutrino Beam, and no excess of v e events is observed.

Can standard model and experimental uncertainties resolve the MiniBooNE anomaly?

Vedran Brdar et al.

Summary: In this paper, we critically examine several theoretical uncertainties in the MiniBooNE experiment to gain a better understanding of the excess of electronlike events observed. We reexamine the impact of various backgrounds and compare the predictions of different event generators. We find that even combining uncertainties in different channels is not sufficient to explain the MiniBooNE anomaly.

Search for K+ decays to a muon and invisible particles

E. Cortina Gil et al.

Summary: The NA62 experiment at CERN reports searches for K+ -> mu N+ and K+ -> mu(+)nu X decays, and establishes upper limits for the masses and decay branching fractions of invisible particles N and X using the 2016-2018 data set. An improved upper limit is also established for the branching fraction of K+ -> mu(+)nu nu(nu) over bar.

Supernova constraints on an axion-photon-dark photon interaction

Anson Hook et al.

Summary: The new supernova constraints on axion-photon-dark photon coupling exhibit two unusual features: one is the weakening of the bounds due to scattering converting axions and dark photons into each other, and the other is the possibility of excessive cooling due to the weaker coupling of longitudinal modes.

Hidden photon dark matter interacting via axion-like particles

Paola Arias et al.

Summary: The study investigates a scenario in which dark matter in the Universe is composed of very light hidden photons transforming under a Z(2)-symmetry. Unlike the usual situation, kinetic mixing is forbidden by the symmetry, and the dark photon interacts with the Standard Model photon only via an axion-like particle acting as a messenger. The survey of phenomenology focuses on signatures involving the ordinary photon and includes limits from cosmological stability, CMB distortions, astrophysical energy loss, light-shining-through-walls experiments, heliostatopes, and solar X-ray observations.

Two-Higgs doublet solution to the LSND, MiniBooNE and muon g-2 anomalies

Waleed Abdallah et al.

Summary: This study shows that by adding a second Higgs doublet to the Standard Model and combining it with a singlet scalar in the dark sector, anomalies in LSND and MB can be explained while maintaining compatibility with the null result from KARMEN, providing a portal to the dark sector and accounting for the observed muon g - 2 value. The use of three singlet neutrinos allows for an understanding of observed neutrino mass-squared differences via a Type I seesaw, with good fits obtained to energy and angular distributions in both experiments.

Model-independent bounds on the nonoscillatory explanations of the MiniBooNE excess

Vedran Brdar et al.

Summary: This study explores nonoscillatory explanations for the low-energy excess of events detected by MiniBooNE, searching for phenomenological scenarios based on new physics. Various scenarios are tested against experimental bounds, with excluded or strongly disfavored scenarios identified. The work can be seen as an effective theory of new physics at accelerator-based neutrino experiments, relevant for future projects like DUNE.
