Auxetic Meta-Display: Stretchable Display without Image Distortion

Bongkyun Jang et al.

Summary: Mechanical metamaterials, especially auxetic metamaterials with negative Poisson's ratios, allow for stretchable displays without image distortion. The meta-display, incorporating micro-LEDs and a kirigami-based auxetic circuit board, overcomes the challenges of large stretchability, high deformation uniformity, and low image distortion. It demonstrates a stretchability of 24.5%, Poisson's ratio of -1, and no image distortion under uniaxial stretching.

Fabrication and Mechanical Testing of the Uniaxial Graded Auxetic Damper

Hasan Al-Rifaie et al.

Summary: This paper presents the fabrication and experimental testing of the Uniaxial Graded Auxetic Damper (UGAD), a shock-absorbing system with lightweight and excellent energy-dissipation characteristics. The results show that the manufactured UGAD matches well with the computational predictions, validating the proposed computational and material models.

Development and characterisation of novel three- dimensional axisymmetric chiral auxetic structures

Nejc Novak et al.

Summary: This study presents novel three-dimensional axisymmetric chiral structures with negative and zero Poisson's ratios, created by converting traditional chiral structure unit cells and evaluating their mechanical properties using digital image correlation technology. The new designs are fabricated and experimentally tested using additive manufacturing technology, showing superior mechanical performance.

Auxeticity and Its Pressure Dependence for Strongly Anisotropic Hard Cyclic Tetramers

Konstantin Tretiakov et al.

Summary: The elastic properties of strongly anisotropic hard cyclic tetramers have been studied using Monte Carlo simulations. It is found that these tetramers exhibit auxetic behavior, with a negative Poisson's ratio, over a certain pressure range.

Effect of steam conversion on the cellular structure, Young's modulus and negative Poisson's ratio of closed-cell foam

Olly Duncan et al.

Summary: This study explored a novel method using steam absorption, cooling, and condensation to convert closed-cell foam into open-cell auxetic foam with a negative Poisson's ratio. Results showed that the final volume ratio of the foam increased with heating time, leading to an increase in re-entrant cell walls and a decrease in compressive Young's modulus. Poisson's ratios were as low as -0.3 in tension and -1.1 in compression, demonstrating the unique mechanical properties of the converted foam.

Experimental and computational evaluation of tensile properties of additively manufactured hexa- and tetrachiral auxetic cellular structures

Summary: The auxetic cellular structures with tetrachiral and hexachiral geometries were fabricated using LPBF technology from two different materials, and their mechanical properties were experimentally determined. Results showed that hexachiral structures have a more ductile response compared to tetrachiral structures.
