Analytical approximation for macroscopic fundamental diagram of urban corridor with mixed human and connected and autonomous traffic

Guojing Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents an analytical capacity model for urban corridors with mixed traffic based on the concept of macroscopic fundamental diagram, considering the penetration rates of connected and autonomous vehicles and the reaction times of different vehicle following patterns. Numerical experiments show that different reaction time settings yield different results, with some leading to corridor capacity increases and others leading to decreases. The proposed methodology is validated through simulation tests in VISSIM 2020.

Linear stability analysis of heterogeneous traffic flow considering degradations of connected automated vehicles and reaction time

Zhihong Yao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of CAV degradations and reaction time diversity on the linear stability of heterogeneous traffic flow composed of CAVs and HDVs. The results indicate that a high penetration rate of CAVs and short reaction time can improve the linear stability of traffic flow, while CAV degradations have a negative effect on stability.

Analytical analysis of the effect of maximum platoon size of connected and automated vehicles

Jiazu Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper explores the impact of maximum CAV platoon size on road capacity and traffic flow stability. Results show that a larger maximum platoon size can help increase capacity, but the incremental benefit becomes smaller over time. Conversely, a smaller maximum platoon size leads to greater traffic flow stabilization.

On string stability of a mixed and heterogeneous traffic flow: A unifying modelling framework

Marcello Montanino et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to enhance the stability of traffic flow by considering the heterogeneity of drivers and vehicles in mixed traffic. By introducing uncertain transfer functions, the research maps the probability distributions of car-following model parameters into an L-2 stability measure in order to analyze and improve the stability of traffic flow.

From homogeneous to heterogeneous traffic flows: Lp String stability under uncertain model parameters

Marcello Montanino et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of heterogeneity of drivers' and vehicles characteristics on platoon stability. The results suggest that while heterogeneous platoons are generally more unstable, the degree of string instability in unstable platoons is higher in a homogeneous flow. The study highlights the importance of modeling traffic heterogeneity to accurately characterize the string stability of mixed traffic flows.
