Summary: This study investigated the diversity and pathogenicity of Colletotrichum species in aquatic plants in southwest China. Thirteen new Colletotrichum species were identified based on morphological characteristics and multi-locus phylogenetic analysis. Pathogenicity tests revealed a wide diversity in pathogenicity and aggressiveness among these species.

Optimization of a Quantitative PCR Methodology for Detection of Aspergillus spp. and Rhizopus arrhizus

Alexandre Mendonca et al.

Summary: This study developed a qPCR method for the detection of multiple pathogens using SYBR Green and melting curve analysis. The method was able to accurately identify different fungal pathogens even in samples with low amounts of fungal gDNA. It did not produce false-positive results for non-target species and can be a simpler and more cost-effective alternative for diagnosing invasive filamentous fungi, especially in low-income healthcare institutions.

Diversity and pathogenicity of Colletotrichum species causing anthracnose on Cunninghamia lanceolata

Jiao He et al.

Summary: Chinese fir, a valuable fast-growing tree species, is threatened by anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum species. In this study, researchers conducted a survey and identified five Colletotrichum species associated with anthracnose on Chinese fir. Pathogenicity tests revealed significant differences in the pathogenicity of these species on the host plants.

A Diagnostic TaqMan Real-Time PCR Assay for In Planta Detection and Quantification of Colletotrichum theobromicola, Causal Agent of Boxwood Dieback

Harleen Kaur et al.

Summary: Boxwood dieback, caused by Colletotrichum theobromicola, is rapidly spreading in the boxwood industry in the United States. A diagnostic TaqMan real-time PCR assay has been developed for early and accurate detection and quantification of C. theobromicola, showing high specificity and sensitivity. This assay can accurately distinguish boxwood dieback from other diseases with similar symptoms.
