Micro-scale frost-weathering simulation - Changes in grain-size composition and influencing factors

Martyna E. Gorska et al.

Summary: This study conducted experimental simulation to investigate the frost-induced changes in the grain-size distributions of micro-scale quartz grains. The relationship between the course of frost weathering and the characteristics of water involved in the process was analyzed. Results showed differences in distributions and the production of different fractions resulting from frost-induced destruction. The study emphasized the significance of grain-size changes in frost-affected sediments/soils.
