Structure of Gcn1 bound to stalled and colliding 80S ribosomes

Agnieszka A. Pochopien et al.

Summary: The Gcn pathway is highly conserved in eukaryotes, with Gcn1 serving as an essential effector protein for Gcn2 kinase to regulate global translation in response to stress. The structure of Gcn1 interacting with stalled and colliding ribosomes was revealed through cryo-electron microscopy, shedding light on the activation of Gcn2. This study provides important insights into the molecular mechanism of Gcn pathway activation and its implications in ribosome-associated quality control pathways.

Olfaction-Related Gene Expression in the Antennae of Female Mosquitoes From Common Aedes aegypti Laboratory Strains

Soumi Mitra et al.

Summary: Adult female mosquitoes rely on olfactory cues to find vertebrate hosts for blood acquisition, and the molecular physiology of the mosquito olfactory system is critical for their host preferences. This study used a Y-tube olfactometer to assess the attraction of seven different strains of Ae. aegypti to human hosts, revealing that mosquitoes from the Puerto Rico strain had significantly reduced attraction rates. RNA-seq analyses of antenna transcriptomes showed distinct differences in gene expression between strains, particularly in olfaction-related genes.

MEGA11 Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis Version 11

Koichiro Tamura et al.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
