The subgroup of 2′-hydroxy-flavonoids: Molecular diversity, mechanism of action, and anticancer properties

Christian Bailly

Summary: Flavonoids are a diverse and well-researched class of natural compounds. 2'-hydroxyflavonoids, particularly 2'-HF and 2'-HFa, show potential anti-cancer activities, with 2D08 as a synthetic derivative enhancing these effects by regulating protein SUMOylation. The 2'-hydroxyl group in flavonoids plays a crucial role in determining their biological properties.

Nitrone Formation by Reaction of an Enolate with a Nitro Group

Hiroaki Shimizu et al.

Summary: Treatment of ketones with a 2-nitrophenyl group at the alpha-position with sodium hydroxide in methanol at 60 degrees C leads to the formation of various nitrones. Unexpected isolation of N-hydroxyindolinone as a byproduct and proposed reaction mechanism involving an alpha-hydroxyketone. The resulting nitrones undergo inter- and intramolecular 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with olefins to yield polycyclic isoxazolidines.

3-Hydroxyflavone derivatives: promising scaffolds for fluorescent imaging in cells

Xueke Zhao et al.

Summary: 3-hydroxyflavone derivatives, known as flavonols, are a typical class of excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) molecules receiving much attention for their potential in fluorescent imaging in cells. The hydrophobic microenvironment plays a significant role in promoting the ESIPT process, which can be regulated by solvents, metal ions, and proteins or DNAs, influencing the fluorescence emission of 3HF effectively through various regulatory strategies. The development of novel 3HF-based fluorescent sensors for imaging in cells and plants is expected to benefit from these findings.
