Constraints on fluid evolution and growth processes of black smoker chimneys by pyrite geochemistry: A case study of the Tongguan hydrothermal field, South Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Sai Wang et al.

Summary: The Tongguan hydrothermal field, located on the South Mid-Atlantic Ridge, is the southernmost-distributed submarine massive sulfide discovered in the region. A well-preserved black smoker chimney collected from the vent field shows variations in pyrite compositions and cobalt concentrations, reflecting different stages of mineralization and fluid-seawater interactions during chimney formation.

Mineralogical and geochemical characteristics and ore-forming mechanism of hydrothermal sediments in the middle and southern Okinawa Trough

Baoju Yang et al.

Summary: This study conducted mineralogical and geochemical analyses of surface sediment samples from hydrothermal fields in the mid and southern Okinawa Trough. The sediments were found to be divided into two types: metalliferous and non-metalliferous, each with distinct characteristics related to their formation processes involving sulfides, sulfate, and terrigenous materials.
