Ultra-compact micro-optical elements for generating high-order Bessel beams

Zong-Da Zhang et al.

Summary: Compared to traditional vortex beams, high-order Bessel beams (HoBBs) have unique characteristics of non-diffraction and self-healing, making them more competitive in complex-environment optical manipulation and long-distance optical communication fields. However, the traditional devices for generating HoBBs are bulky and heavy, hindering optical integration. In this study, we designed an ultra-compact micro-optical element to generate high-quality micro-sized HoBBs, which was demonstrated experimentally with good morphology and beam characteristics of non-diffraction and self-healing.

3D-printed fiber-based zeroth- and high-order Bessel beam generator

Innem V. A. K. Reddy et al.

Summary: This study proposes a photonic structure that uses stacked miniaturized optical elements 3D printed on a fiber facet, enabling the generation of both zeroth- and high-order Bessel beams (BBs) with fully controllable parameters. This approach has potential applications in optical and quantum communications, fiber-based sensors, microscopy, spectroscopy, and optical trapping.

Tunable Bessel Beam Shaping for Robust Atmospheric Optical Communication

Zehui Lu et al.

Summary: This article introduces an anti-turbulence free-space optical communication scheme based on the tunable zero-order Bessel beam. Compared with traditional Gaussian beams, this scheme provides power compensation and maintains communication link stability in poor link environments. To generate tunable Bessel beams, a method based on non-uniform Fourier transform for accurate and fast light field simulation is proposed.

Fabrication of an Anti-Reflective Microstructure on ZnS by Femtosecond Laser Bessel Beams

Xun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the concave antireflective sub-wavelength structures (ASS) on ZnS have been experimentally investigated to achieve high transmittance in the far-infrared spectral range. A simple method to fabricate microhole array ASS by femtosecond Bessel beam was proposed, which effectively increased the depth of the microholes and suppressed thermal effects. Different Gaussian and Bessel beam parameters were explored to prepare three ASS structures with different periods, ultimately increasing the transmittance in the 6 to 10 micrometer waveband.

Trapping of rare earth-doped nanorods using quasi Bessel beam optical fiber tweezers

R. A. Minz et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated optical trapping of high aspect ratio rare earth-doped nanorods using quasi Bessel beams, analyzing the forces exerted on the trapped nanorods and their motion. The experiments showed the advantages of using a quasi Bessel beam for trapping multiple nanorods over a large distance and obtaining accurate results.
