Energy limit for linear-to-nonlinear femtosecond laser pulse focusing in air

Summary: The study identified a specific range of laser pulse numerical apertures where distortions in both frequency-angular spectrum and pulse spatial shape are minimal. Threshold pulse energy and peak power were also found for the transition between linear and strongly nonlinear laser pulse focusing in air. These findings provide insights into obtaining maximum laser intensity with good beam quality suitable for various laser micropatterning and micromachining technologies.

Summary: Frequency-angular distributions for THz emission in a single-color laser filament plasma with and without an electrostatic field were experimentally studied for the first time, showing significant differences in the angular distribution for various spectral components. The angular distribution for low-frequency THz emission is sensitive to laser pulse energy, with an increase leading to a decrease in propagation angles and disappearance of local minimum.
