Scintillation and Bit Error Rate Analysis of Lommel Beam

Mert Bayraktar

Summary: This paper investigates the characteristics of Lommel beams, comparing their scintillation index to Gaussian beams and evaluating their performance in terms of bit error rate under weak turbulent and low signal to noise ratio conditions. It is found that Lommel beams exhibit lower scintillation indexes than Gaussian beams and outperform them in terms of bit error rate.

Generation of high-uniformity and high-resolution Bessel beam arrays through all-dielectric metasurfaces

Lei Chen et al.

Summary: This study experimentally demonstrates the generation of high-uniformity and high-resolution Bessel beam arrays using all-dielectric metasurfaces. By optimizing the design of the grating and reducing the size of each supercell, subwavelength transverse dimensions and large numerical apertures are achieved while maintaining relatively high uniformity intensity. This research has significant implications for applications of metasurface-based Bessel beam arrays in various fields.

Planar chiral metasurfaces with maximal and tunable chiroptical response driven by bound states in the continuum

Tan Shi et al.

Summary: The authors propose a design of planar chiral metasurfaces that exhibit ultrahigh quality factors and near-perfect circular dichroism. They utilize the physics of chiral bound states in the continuum and demonstrate experimentally the chiroptical responses with high quality factors and near-perfect circular dichroism at optical frequencies. The design allows for flexibility in enhancing and tuning the chirality and quality factors of the metasurfaces.

Propagation characteristics of non-diffracting Lommel beams in a gradient-index medium

Yuanfei Hui et al.

Summary: By investigating the propagation of Lommel beams in a gradient-index medium, we derived analytical expressions for the complex amplitude of the beams and analyzed their intensity distribution and Poynting vector. Our results show that the beams focus at singularities in the medium and exhibit periodic beam profiles induced by symmetrical refractive index patterns. Additionally, we discussed the effects of asymmetry factors and topological charges on the beam propagation characteristics.

Use of Dielectric Metasurfaces to Generate Deep-Subwavelength Nondiffractive Bessel-Like Beams with Arbitrary Trajectories and Ultralarge Deflection

Jing Wen et al.

Summary: Dielectric metasurfaces are used to generate highly focused nondiffractive Bessel-like accelerating beams with predefined trajectories in a broad spectral range. Synthetic-phase metasurfaces are demonstrated to produce various accelerating Bessel-like beams and beam arrays with different predefined trajectories and characteristic parameters that are not achievable with conventional spatial light modulators.

Metasurface optics for on-demand polarization transformations along the optical path

Ahmed H. Dorrah et al.

Summary: By using metasurfaces to independently shape the polarization state of a light beam at each point in space along its propagation direction, longitudinally variable polarization optical components are demonstrated; a new class of polarizers and wave plates based on metasurfaces can impart an arbitrarily chosen polarization response along the propagation direction, regardless of the incident polarization; this approach allows for the desired propagation-dependent polarization response to be enacted without prior knowledge of the incident polarization, expanding the use of polarization in the design of multifunctional metasurfaces.

Vectorial Compound Metapixels for Arbitrary Nonorthogonal Polarization Steganography

Zi-Lan Deng et al.

Summary: Malus' law serves as the foundation for image steganography based on orthogonal polarizations of light, but introducing a vectorial compound metapixel design allows for arbitrary nonorthogonal polarization multiplexing of independent grayscale images with high fidelity and strong concealment. This new approach sheds light on metaoptics and unlocks the full potential of metasurface polarization optics.
