Unraveling the potential of Gd doping on mullite Bi2Fe4O9 for fiber optic ethanol gas detection at room temperature

Subha Krishna Rao et al.

Summary: Development of multiferroic materials is gaining importance due to its potential multifunctional properties, in addition to their non-toxicity and cost effectiveness. In this study, pristine Bi2Fe4O9 (BFO) and Gadolinium doped Bi2Fe4O9 (BGFO) were synthesized using the solid state ball milling technique. The results showed that Gadolinium ions were successfully incorporated into the BFO lattice without altering the structure. Optical analysis revealed enhanced absorption and improved conduction in the Gd doped samples, particularly BGFO(3) sample, which also exhibited superior ethanol gas sensing properties at room temperature.

Ayman M. Mostafa

Summary: In this study, ZnO/PVA nanocomposite was synthesized using pulsed laser ablation method, with varying concentrations of ZnO nanostructures achieved by changing the laser ablation time. The prepared sample exhibited nanoparticles with a size range of 10-20 nm, hexagonal ZnO structure, and showed shifting optical properties with increasing ZnO concentration. The investigation also revealed enhanced nonlinear refractive index (n(2)) and nonlinear absorption coefficient (beta) with increasing laser ablation time.
