Layout optimisation of offshore wave energy converters using a novel multi-swarm cooperative algorithm with backtracking strategy: A case study from coasts of Australia

Mehdi Neshat et al.

Summary: Wave energy technologies have great potential in the global supply of renewable energy, and fully submerged buoys are the most promising design for wave energy converters. This paper investigates the optimization of wave energy converter arrays consisting of three-tether buoys, aiming to optimize the total energy output by adjusting the relative positions of buoys in a wave farm. Solving this problem is challenging due to the complex hydrodynamic interactions among wave energy converters, but the proposed hybrid cooperative framework exhibits the best performance in terms of solution quality, computational efficiency, and convergence speed.
