Suction Bucket Foundations under Cyclic Tensile Loading -Physical and Numerical Modeling

P. Guetz et al.

Summary: Suction buckets are considered a promising alternative for offshore wind turbine foundations, but limited economic and ecological advantages are due to a lack of knowledge regarding tensile bearing behavior. Cyclic and monotonic tests show that the applied load magnitude has a strong effect on displacement evolution, plug heave, and suction induced during testing in sand. The study suggests that the bearing behavior of suction buckets is mainly governed by hydraulic conditions rather than soil mechanics.

Effects of embedment depth on the pullout capacity of bucket foundations in sand

Vicent Ssenyondo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that bucket foundations exhibit different pullout capacity characteristics under different loading rates, with significant increases in capacity with depth of embedment and L/D ratio. The findings show the importance of considering these factors in the design of bucket foundations for offshore structures in sand.
