Identification of psychological correlates of dietary misreporting under laboratory and free-living environments

Mark Hopkins et al.

Summary: The errors in self-reported measures of energy intake are significant and well-documented, but the factors related to misreporting are still unclear. Personal and psychological traits were examined as predictors of misreporting, but no clear patterns were identified across studies or dietary assessment techniques, and they had little utility in predicting misreporting.

Individual differences and moderating participant characteristics in the effect of reducing portion size on meal energy intake: Pooled analysis of three randomized controlled trials

Eric Robinson et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that reducing meal portion size generally led to a decrease in meal energy intake among most participants. There was little evidence to suggest that a subgroup of participants consistently resisted portion size reductions. The results suggest that portion size may be a universal driver of energy intake and downsizing food portions could be an effective intervention approach to reducing population-level energy intake.

The effect of restrained eating on acute stress-induced food intake in people with obesity

Benedict Herhaus et al.

Summary: The study found differences in total energy intake in response to acute stress between high and low restrained eaters in individuals with obesity. Restrained eating behavior may influence stress-induced eating in obesity, emphasizing the importance of understanding the association between restrained eating behavior and obesity for improving behavioral interventions.

Comparison of the Validity and Generalizability of Machine Learning Algorithms for the Prediction of Energy Expenditure: Validation Study

Ruairi O'Driscoll et al.

Summary: This study tested the validity and generalizability of algorithms for predicting energy expenditure across different wearables using laboratory data sets. Results showed high predictive accuracy of algorithms trained on combined data sets, but poorer performance in between-study validations, creating uncertainty regarding the generalizability of the tested algorithms.
