LOCAL AND PARALLEL FINITE ELEMENT ALGORITHMS FOR THE INCOMPRESSIBLE NAVIER-STOKES EQUATIONS WITH DAMPING

Eid Wassim et al.

Summary: In this paper, we introduce a local and parallel finite element algorithm using a two-grid discretization strategy for simulating the steady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with a nonlinear damping term. The algorithm computes a solution on a coarse grid and then adjusts it on overlapped fine grid subdomains. Error bounds of the approximate solutions are estimated using the theoretical tool of local a priori estimate, and the algorithmic parameter scalings are derived. Numerical results are presented to verify the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

WEAK GALERKIN METHOD FOR THE STOKES EQUATIONS WITH DAMPING

Hui Peng et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the weak Galerkin (WG) finite element method for solving the Stokes equations with damping, establishes the WG numerical scheme on general meshes, and proves the well-posedness of the scheme. Optimal error estimates for the velocity and pressure are derived, and a two-level method is proposed to accelerate the WG algorithm with corresponding error estimates. Finally, numerical examples are presented to validate the theoretical analysis.

Unconditional convergence and superconvergence analysis for the transient Stokes equations with damping

Zhenzhen Li et al.

Summary: This paper presents a linearized backward Euler scheme for the transient Stokes equations with damping, where the velocity and pressure are approximated by the lowest-order rectangular element pair. Optimal error estimates in various norms and superconvergent results are derived using Stokes operator and interpolation post-processing technique. Numerical results are provided to validate the theoretical analysis.

Two-level defect-correction stabilized algorithms for the simulation of 2D/3D steady Navier-Stokes equations with damping

Bo Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper presents and studies two kinds of two-level defect-correction stabilized algorithms for the simulation of 2D/3D steady Navier-Stokes equations with damping, where an artificial viscosity stabilized nonlinear Navier-Stokes problem with damping is first solved in the coarse grid defect step, and corrections are computed in the fine grid correction step by solving a linear problem based on Oseen-type and Newton-type iterations, respectively.

Local and parallel finite element algorithms based on domain decomposition for the 2D/3D Stokes equations with damping

Bo Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper introduces two local and parallel finite element algorithms for the 2D/3D steady Stokes equations with a nonlinear damping term, using a two-grid discretization and domain decomposition approach. The algorithms first approximate the low-frequency component on a coarse grid, and then compute the high-frequency component on a locally fine grid through some local and parallel procedures. The proposed algorithms are easy to implement with low communication complexity, and error estimates of the approximate solutions are derived using a technical tool of local a priori estimate for finite element solution.

Summary: This paper develops a nonconforming mixed finite element method for the time-dependent Navier-Stokes problem with a nonlinear damping term. Superconvergent estimates for the velocity and pressure are rigorously deduced through the use of certain techniques, and global superconvergent results are obtained through postprocessing. Numerical results are provided to confirm the theoretical analysis.
