Use of Atomic Spectroscopy for Measuring Strong Inhomogeneous Magnetic Fields

A. Sargsyan et al.

Summary: The study utilizes the selective reflection spectrum of laser light from the surface boundary of a spectroscopic nanocell with pairs of rubidium atoms to measure the magnetic field applied to the nanocell. A simplified method for calculating the magnetic induction B in the range of 0.1-6.0 kG is proposed, based on the frequency intervals between atomic transitions. The analysis of the selective reflection spectrum can be facilitated using a specially created computer program, allowing for high spatial resolution.

Saturated absorption technique used in potassium microcells for magnetic field sensing

Summary: This study demonstrates the formation of narrow atomic lines in the transmission spectrum using a micrometric thin K-39 vapor cell and saturated absorption spectroscopy. The small characteristic magnetic field value of K-39 allows for decoupling of J and I at relatively low magnetic fields, resulting in the formation of two groups of spectrally-resolved atomic transitions.

Beam shape modification due to the non-linear optical response in a dense rubidium vapor

A. J. van Lange et al.

Summary: Dense atomic vapors exhibit strong non-linear optical properties, causing initially Gaussian beam profiles to be distorted as they propagate through the vapor. Experimentally, detuning curves relative to intensity were established for different beam shapes, which ultimately collapsed onto a universal detuning curve, suggesting they are manifestations of the same underlying phenomenon.

Absorption spectroscopy and Stokes polarimetry in a 87Rb vapour in the Voigt geometry with a 1.5 T external magnetic field

Francisco S. Ponciano-Ojeda et al.

Summary: This study conducted a spectroscopic investigation on thermal Rb-87 atomic vapour with a 1.5 T external magnetic field in the Voigt geometry. The experimental data showed very good quantitative agreement with theory, allowing extraction of parameters such as magnetic field strength and angle between the magnetic field and polarisation of light. Characterisation of cell window birefringence effects on optical rotation signals was also performed, facilitating precise measurements and potential applications for atomic magnetometers.

Summary: The FADOF based on a hollow cathode lamp (HCL-FADOF) serves as a new alternative to traditional vapor-cell-based FADOF, offering the advantage of normal operation at room temperature without heating. Experimental results demonstrate excellent stability within a large temperature range and quick start-up characteristics in low-temperature environments for the HCL-FADOF.

Tunable homogeneous kG magnetic field production using permanent magnets

Danielle Pizzey

Summary: The study introduces a permanent ring magnet arrangement that can generate a tunable axial magnetic field ranging from 1.80 to 2.67 kG. By placing a cylindrical atomic vapor cell within the ring magnets, it provides an alternative method for imaging through atomic vapors in large magnetic fields. The experimental results show low variation in magnetic field strength along the length of the vapor cell and controlled field inhomogeneity.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in a V-system with 87Rb vapour in the hyperfine Paschen-Back regime

Clare R. Higgins et al.

Summary: In this study, electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) was observed in a V-system in thermal rubidium-87 vapor under a magnetic field. The distinct EIT features from different initial states were shown to be cleaner with the presence of a magnetic field. Excited state decay into ground states played a prominent role in the generation of the transparency feature.
